Survival Tips

*Before going on a hike or camping trip, tell someone where you're heading and about what time you'll be returning.*
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Find north without a compass.*
In the northern hemisphere moss will grow on the north side of the trees.
The southern side of the tree will have wider grained bark.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Use an analog watch to find north.*
Northern Hemisphere
Point the hour hand at the sun
South is located halfway between the hour hand and 12 o'clock.
Southern Hemisphere
Point 12 o'clock at the sun
North is located halfway between 12 o'clock and the hour hand. South is in the opposite direction.

*Get water from trees.*
Tie a clear plastic bag over and around a leafy green branch.  You'll be able to produce water through condensation. Make sure the bag is tightly sealed over and around the branch or it won't produce any condensation water at all.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Stay warm while sleeping.*
Use a stick to cut a six foot trench in the ground about six inches deep, and move the hot coals from your fire into the trench and cover it back up with dirt. Sleep on the buried coals to stay warm.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Salt*
Add 12 single packages of salt to your kit.  Use ¼ teaspoon (about 4 single packets) to 1 quart of drinking water. This will replenish your body’s salt supply and help your body retain water.  Apply salt to a bee sting to soothe the pain, cover the sting with salt and use a bandage to keep the salt in place.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Dandelions*
Dandelions can be found pretty easy.  Their rich in vitamin A, C and calcium.  All parts of the plant are edible to eat.  You can use the milky juice from the stalk for glue.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When spending the night in a survival situation, don't be afraid of strange or weird noises in the night.   Anything that intends to harm you will stalk you silently!
